About Us

Ideas on Board is a consultancy company focussed on camera, image processing and display for Linux systems. We help our customers turn their vision into reality at every stage, from design to production and beyond. With 15 years of development experience in embedded Linux, we offer training, design, implementation, upstreaming and maintenance services.

Our expertise includes hardware bringup, driver development, libcamera support and camera tuning.

Foundation

Ideas on Board was founded by our CEO Laurent Pinchart in 2010 to support the development of camera drivers and software for Nokia Linux phones.

Our developments and experiences in Linux development start even earlier with Laurent’s first accepted contribution to the Linux Kernel in 2006, providing the frame format enumeration APIs still in use today and cementing our continued commitment to upstream Kernel development, architecture and design.

Our nature to build software for everything from cameras to display started when Laurent wrote and upstreamed the UVC Video Class drivers for Linux, enabling millions of devices to use USB cameras in Linux, ChromeOS and Android devices. A passion we’ve continued into supporting modern MIPI CSI2 cameras and ISPs with our development of the libcamera project.

Global Talent

Our team is centered in Europe and distributed worldwide, working seamlessly across time zones.

We hire for expertise and impact, wherever that talent is found, and support our partners and customers around the globe.
